Piece Peace
Dear Yoko, My Mother Was Beautiful Too
Installation and Performance by Kaety Moore March 2009
The Artistic Republic Of Garston & Garston Embassy were created for Liverpool Biennial 2008. An artist created a façade over the Tocky Tech building, the old Wellington Street School. In it was a missile sculpture known locally as the rocket.
It's presence offended me and other pacifists.
I intended to wrap the missile in canvas to honour the work of Yoko Ono and remember the dead and dying in Iraq, Afghanistan, Uganda, Palestine...all the places where hurting was happening. The Biennial took the rocket back before I could carry out my work.
Peace Piece, Dear Yoko, My Mother Was Beautiful Too is my response to the missile and this action.
Accompanying the installation and performance were chalk words musing on Yoko Ono's "Imagine Peace".
My performance took place on Mother's Day 2009. I sat to knit and breastfeed for peace.
The previous day I laid out a tablecloth on the ground to set my rocking chair upon. On this I laid daffodils. I filled a cradle with apples.
I began to knit.
Later I returned with candles and avacados.
I sat.
Over night my rocking chair was stolen.
I returned early Sunday morning and sat on the floor to knit. I spoke with passers-by about my grief, and theirs. For their stories I exchanged daffodils.
Later on I gave out the apples and daffodils and thought about my mother.
To the memory of Maureen Glennon 1950-2007

A lovely thing to do, and your record of your vigil is very touching.

ReplyDeleteI've read it all.
It made me pain for you.
But you took a sad song, and made it better.
It was a relief to know that.
Thank you.
Love, yoko
thank you x
